Our unique summer enrichment program is like no other!
Discovery Camp is a program designed to give students a faith based place to spend their summer days learning and exploring their talents and interests. Discovery Camp offers team & character building, a variety of sports exposure, water play, cooking, field trips, enrichment fun with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), and so much more.
We are excited to try something new this summer. Instead of multiple themes, we have chosen one big theme that will be broken up over the summer. At Morning Star Academy, we know choice is a powerful motivator. While our summer is full of educational activities, we do our best to pull from campers’ interests. This year’s theme will still provide LOTS of chances for kids to make choices throughout the day. Instead of making kids choose at the beginning of the summer, they will have the power to choose based on the options for the day. There will still be lots of opportunities to do the things they love like arts & crafts, Lego challenges, cooking, design, science experiments, learning about animals and much more!
This summer’s theme is Passport to Fun. Each week we will be traveling to a new continent and exploring all that location has to offer!
Week 1 (June 10-14) Bon Voyage
Our first week is always a week where we get to know our campers before diving in. We’ll be creating our passports, exploring transportation, and packing our bags!
Week 2 (June 17-21) Antarctica
Where can you find snow in June? MSA of course. We will have lots of fun exploring the Northern Lights, glaciers, and polar animals. This week will include a trip to the Texas A&M Commerce Planetarium.
Week 3 (June 24-28) Central and South America
From the chilly tundra to the rainforest. This week will have you exploring the Amazon, experimenting with making Batik prints, and climbing Machu Picchu. We’ll even have a visit from Sid the Sloth!
Week 4 (July 1-5) North America
We will make a quick trip home this week to celebrate the birth of our country and do some sightseeing from sea to shining sea!
Week 5 (July 8-12) Europe
Explore castles, enjoy high tea, learn about the Crown Jewels, and make a gondola to float down the streets of Venice. This week will be packed with good food and lots of fun including a trip to Medievel Times Tournament and Games!
Week 6 (July 15-19) Africa
Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! We’ll explore the African savannah, learn about African drumming and traditional instruments, and design our own textile patterns. To top off the week, we will get a hands-on workshop and performance by storyteller and drummer Baba Kwasi!
Week 7 (July 22-26) Asia
From the Taj Mahal and jungles of India to the Great Wall in China, campers will get an up-close look of the sights and sounds of Asia. As an extra special treat, we will have Maxwell’s Gym join us for a martial arts demonstration and workshop.
Week 8 (July 29- Aug. 2) Australia
Make a didgeridoo, enjoy fairy bread, and check out some amazing wildlife as we travel down under to explore Australia.
Week 9 (Aug. 5-9) Welcome Home
This week will be a celebration of all we have learned as well as a back to school celebration! Our final trip of the summer will have us diving in at the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park.
